John K. Vietnam Veteran- Silver star recipient-Podcast 3- October 4, 2017

John K, born in Germany. Came to the United States at the age of 8. John was drafted into the Army in 1968 right after Tet. He deployed to Vietnam in January ’69, and served with the 195th Assault Helicopter Co. John was attached to MACV-SOG as a door gunner on a UH-1H Huey. Their primary mission which the majority is still (Classified) was Insert & extract Special Ops into Cambodia to gather intel. John’s awards include the Silver star, 15 air medals, 2 Army Commendations w/oak leaf cluster. John is now enjoying his free time being retired with his Wife in Florida. John has one son who is a Blackhawk pilot in the Army with numerous deployments. John is a member of the VVA Vietnam Veterans of America. And he currently volunteers at the VA medical center, he attends PTSD counseling at his local Vet Center. And serves as a Mentor to younger Veterans through his local court system who have run afoul of the law. He stated, this is in keeping with the VVA mission of:

“NEVER AGAIN WILL ONE GENERATION OF VETERANS, ABANDON ANOTHER.”
